Спустя столетия после Христа на смену соферимам пришли писцы, известные как масореты. Они особым образом помечали изменения, внесенные соферимами, перенося их на поля или в конец текста Еврейских Писаний. Такие пометки на полях стали называться масорой. В масоре приведен перечень 15 мест, где встречаются дополнительные точки: 15 слов или фраз в древнееврейском тексте, добавленных соферимами, помечены точками или черточками. Некоторые из этих пометок никак не влияют на перевод или понимание текста, но другие имеют важное значение, и от них многое зависит. Согласно той же масоре, соферимы и ранние писцы ответственны и за внесение в текст по крайней мере 18 исправлений, хотя, очевидно, их было еще больше. Лидирующие католические переводы (New American, New Jerusalem, Good News-Catholic Edition) оказались более точными, чем главные протестантские Библии.
